The Renewable Energy Performance Platform (REPP)
Description
REPP is an innovative funding platform created by the European Investment Bank and the UNEP, and funded by the UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. REPP provides early-stage funding, advisory services, and results-based finance for the development and construction of small and medium-scale renewable energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa.
Investment Details
REPP facilitates access to equity investors via its REPP Partner Network. REPP provides Result Based Finance which can be structured in various ways. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE / GRANTS The REPP has a Technical Assistance facility to provide soft loans and reimbursable grants to project developers. DEBT MEZZANINE REPP facilitates access to debt providers via its REPP Partner Network. GUARANTEE / INSURANCE REPP facilitates access to risk mitigation providers via its REPP Partner Network.
Funding Procedure
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS 1 – 25MW capacity Hydro, Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Waste-To-Energy, Biomass, Biogas. To apply for support, developers should email info@repp-africa.org or fill in a checklist at: www.repp-africa.org/eligibility-checklist CO-FUNDING
REQUIREMENTS Developers are expected to co-fund development costs. When providing Result-Based Finance, the REPP expects co-investments in equity and/or debt. TARGET IMPACT REPP seeks to mobilise private sector development activity and investment in small and medium scale renewable energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa. 5 years targets: 150MW of renewable energy, 4.7m tCO2e avoided, 1.8m new connections.
