Attilio Pacifici is a career diplomat of the European Union External Action Service (EEAS). He started his career in the European Union institutions in 1993 focusing on Africa and African affairs. Since September 2017 he is the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Uganda with the title and rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

From November 2009 to December 2014 Pacifici served in Liberia as Head of the European Union Delegation also with the title and rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
In between the ambassadorial postings, Pacifici has been senior advisor to the EEAS Managing Director for Africa which included, inter alia, the responsibility of organising EU-Africa international summits such as the Ebola conference (3 March, 2015) and the Valletta Summit on migration (12-13 November 2015) of Heads of State of European and African countries parties to the Rabat and Khartoum processes.

Previous assignments abroad include: Deputy Head of Mission in the EU Delegation to Malawi (2000-2004), Counsellor in the EU Delegation to Nigeria (1997 to 2000) and First Secretary in the EU Delegation to Uganda (1993 to 1997). In between these postings he worked in the European Commission HQ in Brussels (West Africa Department) in charge of the external relations with Nigeria and Sierra Leone (2004-2009).
Before joining the European Commission Pacifici worked six years in the private sector managing large infrastructure projects in Europe and Africa. During this period he worked in Mozambique and Angola (1988 to mid-1990).
Mr. Pacifici graduated in engineering, cum laude (dignity of printing), at the University of Roma in 1984. He was born in May 1958 in Rome (Italy). He is married and has two children.
